Salaries' Commission Highlight MoE Inconsistencies

The public hearings of the Commission on the Review of Public Service Salaries and Conditions of Service have brought to the fore the inconsistencies in the Ministry of Education (MoE).

The highlighted inconsistencies included disparities in salaries, job progression, allowances and general working conditions. The use of open trucks for the transportation of pupils was another burning issue before the commission during its hearings in Kgalagadi/Western Ngwaketsi leg. Wilminah Titus, representing Maiteko Junior Secondary School in Mabutsane pointed out the unfairness of the prevailing system through which teachers with similar qualifications are rewarded differently. The current system disadvantages teachers in junior secondary schools.

Apparently the Ministry of Education's argument has been that though the teachers at senior and junior secondary schools could be having similar qualifications, their responsibilities are not the same. But teachers dismiss this saying that those with diploma at primary and junior secondary school get the same entry level salary.
