SADC slammed for 'silent diplomacy'

A visiting delegation of activists from civil society groups from Zimbabwe has condemned the Southern African Development Community (SADC) for its approach of 'silent diplomacy' which, they believe, has failed the Zimbabweans, plunging the country into electoral crisis.

Addressing a group of journalists at a press conference organised by MISA Botswana in collaboration with the "Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition," Gordon Moyo of the Bulawayo Agenda spoke critically against SADC conflict resolution mechanisms. "How can one person hold the whole sub region to ransom?" he queried. "Our hope is that all of us who care about humanity should go out there and isolate Robert Mugabe," he said.

He also argued that South African President, Thabo Mbeki was no longer fit to mediate in the Zimbabwean crisis because he was biased towards Mugabe.
