A strike by employees of the South African Revenue Services (SARS) is hurting Botswana government revenues badly, Assistant Minister of Finance Keletso Rakhudu said yesterday.

He said the strike may result in a shortage of commodities in Botwana. He told Mmegi that the flow of commercial traffic from South Africa has slowed down hence the Botswana Unified Revenue Services is not collecting enough revenue.

He added that the tourism sector may be affected by the strike as there is stiff competition for tourists between the two countries. In some instances, the minister said, tourists may divert their trips to avoid the hustle caused by the strike at the borders.
