SA produces more contaminants than Botswana - DWA official

MARTINS DRIFT: Initial results from a recent survey done by the Department of Water Affairs' officers and their counterparts in South Africa have shown that the level of pollution of rivers in Botswana is much lower compared to that in South Africa.

A Limpopo Basin official, Naidoo Kurugundla said that a systematic water quality joint survey showed that minerals found in water samples collected from Botswana are within acceptable international limits, while those from Crocodile River in South Africa showed traces of pollution.

Kurugundla, who was addressing delegates on water quality issues at a meeting between Tuli Block farmers and representatives from the governments of Botswana and South African in Martins Drift, however, said the survey was necessary to assess water quality conditions of Limpopo River basin and to harmonize standards of the two countries.
