SA parliamentarians study Botswana's education system

During the first of their five-day visit yesterday, head of the delegation, Member of Parliament (MP) Helen Malgas said her delegation hopes to learn how the Botswana education system managed to be among the top in Africa in "literacy and numeracy".She said her delegation also hopes to gain some insight on how Botswana managed to reduce the achievement gap among learners, as well as to interrogate the alignment of the education sector Acts and departmental policies with the success of the education system.
The delegation also hopes to investigate how Batswana learners perform well in English, Mathematics and Sciences, and explore how the local Education Ministry deals with the question of early childhood development. The Malgas-led delegation also sought to discover the teacher training and developments method Botswana uses, and their relevance to teaching.
It underscores the indispensable role women play in our society, particularly in building strong households and nurturing families.
