Ruthless child-killer to plead guilty

FRANCISTOWN: The case in which Xiko Monnapula (27) is charged with murdering his seven months old baby girl, Dodom Motlhose is expected to start today. The interpreter for the accused arrived yesterday.

The accused only speaks Senarwa, which is spoken in the Gantsi districts. The defence lawyer, Morris Ndawana had to take time to explain to the accused the facts of the case in the presence of the interpreter, Tsebe Qoma who speaks both Senarwa and Setswana.
The defence team intends to plead guilty to the murder charge.  According to evidence gathered from witnesses, on the 5th August 2005 in Gantsi, on farm 5N Chobokwane Village, the accused, Monnapula took the baby by its legs and hung her upside down.
He then got close to the thorn tree under which they sat and started hitting the baby against the tree three times.

Meanwhile, the state prosecutor, Selitshena Thamsanqa seemed anxious to speed and wrap up the case. "This case is simple and straight forward. All the five witnesses testified against the accused person. We therefore are getting ready with preparing our submissions," said Thamsanqa.
