Russians host Diplomats Day in Gaborone

The Russian embassy will host a celebration to mark Diplomats Day in Gaborone tomorrow. Russia is the only country that celebrates the day meant to remember the establishment of its first foreign policy department Posolsky Prikaz (Diplomatic Office) on February 10.

Though the department was established in 1549, celebrations to mark the day started 12 years ago by presidential decree. More than 200 Russian diplomatic missions will celebrate the day tomorrow. Ahead of the celebrations, the Russian ambassador to Botswana, Anatoly Korsun has said the key qualities for a diplomat have always been the deep insight into his motherlands interests and skills to stand for these interests in the international arena. Russia is a modern powerful state with a growing economy and improving quality of peoples life. And we, Russian diplomats, have also contributed to these positive trends. We contribute to overall efforts to ensure and protect interests of our country and Russian citizens, he said. He added that nowadays not a single state can confront global challenges and threats. Therefore effective cooperation with all other countries based on the rules of international law is of high importance for securing world and regional stability.

The envoy said Diplomats Day is a tribute to many generations of diplomats who faithfully served Russia. Even today the best traditions and experience of the Russian diplomacy help us to implement the foreign policy course determined by the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, which meets fundamental interests of our country and expectations of the Russian people, he stated.
