Ruling in stepdaughter defilement case deferred

A case in which a stepfather is accused of defiling his daughter continued at the Village Magistrates Court in Gaborone yesterday. Johns John* allegedly sexually abused his then 11-year old stepdaughter for a period of three years at their home in Metsemotlhabe.

It was revealed in court that the sexual abuse started when the stepdaughter was still in Standard 5. The court heard that the accused person would enter the room in the middle of the night where the complainant was sleeping with her cousin and abuse her before disappearing into the darkness.

The abuse was noticed after the complainant allegedly collapsed at school and had to be sent to a clinic.
