Richard: Leader in student rebellion

In this era, student politics have never been more treacherous, but University of Botswana (UB) student firebrand, Khumoekae Richard has kept at it, with consequences, writes Mmegi Correspondent OAGENG BATENEGI

To some he is a troublesome young boy with a penchant for troublemaking at every school he has been to.  However, others view Khumoekae Richard, the former president of the UB Student Representative Council (SRC), as a student welfare messiah. Richard's involvement in student politics cost him a lot. Although, he has been suspended from UB on more than one occasion, he has no regrets. He has spent a good amount of time in court, a hectic schedule for a student pursuing his final year of study.

He is alleged to have been the ringleader in the recent strike at the university, which saw students protesting maladministration at the new School of Medicine, the termination of supplementary exams as well as non-academic related matters such as the future of the inter-varsity games.
