Retrenchments rip hole in Phikwe saving's purse

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The just ended retrenchment exercise at BCL and Tati Nickel Mines has adversely affected the financial standing of Selebi-Phikwe Miners Savings and Credit Co-operative Society (SACCOS), a cooperative official has revealed.

SACCOS lost 25 members through retrenchments and this has reduced members' savings by P571,208,15 and resulted in a loss of share capital of P12,500.

Retrenchment also led to the reduction of loans ratio from 1:3 to 1:1. An average of P3 million monthly loans have been reduced to P404,932. Department of Cooperative Development official, Ivy Kekgobilwe, said the future of SACCOS is totally dependent on the existence of BCL Mine.
