Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) chairperson and businessman, Solly Reikeletseng has dismissed claims that he harbours political ambitions.

Reikeletseng, who has been linked with a constituency in Francistown, under the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), said he has no interest in  politics. The man who is perceived to be Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Shaw Kgathi's ally, said he is not interested in assuming any political role. "I have heard the rumors and that I am also being groomed for the Sports Ministry. Those claims have become a broken record. My priority is business not politics," Reikeletseng said. He said his potential can be explored while he is the chairperson of the BNSC and he does not need a political position. Reikeletseng added that he believes he has a lot to offer sports, not politics; and is comfortable where he is at the moment.

"I am not interested in politics; I am not a politician. Neither am I interested in standing in Francistown nor am I interested in the position of Sports Minister," he said. Reikeletseng, a distinguished karateka during his days, rose to prominence in the past year when he was appointed BNSC chairperson, an influential position in sports circles. Speculation heightened that Kgathi was ready to launch Reikeletseng's political career as the two are considered to be quite friendly. However, Reikeletseng said his focus is on growing his business. He is a director of Itekanele Health Scheme.
