Record number of petitions after Zambian polls

LUSAKA: A record number of petitions have been lodged in Zambia to challenge the election of MPs in the September 20 general elections.

Up to 68 petitions have been filed in the High Court with President Michael Sata's governing Patriotic Front (PF) topping the list with a record 50.

The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) is contesting results in 11 constituencies, independent candidates are disputing them in two while the former governing party, the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) is contesting the results in only five constituencies.
