Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Ponatshego Kedikilwe, has challenged Batswana to tighten their belts and show their creativity and management acumen in the wake of the global financial crisis which threatens to reverse the economic gains that Botswana has enjoyed for several years.

Speaking at a ceremony to celebrate the official opening of the first phase of the Diamond Technology Park in Gaborone on Wednesday, the Minister said that the country's vast mineral resources have seen Botswana enjoy economic prosperity but now the same resources are about to bring poverty to our homes, if proper survival measures are not put in place.

"Diamonds have uplifted our lives, but with the way the tide has changed they are about to become our undoing.
