BOKAA: Couples ought to marry and not cohabit. This is because cohabitation brings with it many problems when one partner dies. However marriage in Botswana is expensive.

And many have resorted to 'living together' and raising children who eventually also cohabit creating a cycle that threatens the very institution of marriage. So upon realising the threat to marriage, Bokaa-born brother and sister David and Annah Morwaagole decided it was time to get cohabiting partners married.  They talked to other people - business people who were equally concerned about the diminishing status of marriage in Botswana, and they all agreed that they would sponsor the idea.

"The whole thing started as an idea to get our herdsman married. The man had a woman and children but had not fulfilled marital requirements. So, it was while we were talking about the herdsman that we realised we could extend the privilege to other people,'' David Morwaagole told The Monitor.  They would solicit funding to buy the couples' rings and also throw a mass wedding party for them.
