Rauwe primary celebrates top results

TONOTA: A carnival atmosphere pervaded Rauwe Primary School premises in Tonota on Friday as the school celebrated its excellent 2012 Standard VII results. It seems the school is getting accustomed to being at the top in the central district, as it was the fourth time it scooped position one since 2009.

Guest speaker at the occasion, the Minister of Education, Skills and Development Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi was on hand to applaud the school management and staff for producing good results. And so was Member of Parliament (MP) for Tonota South Pono Moathodi who was all smiles as he mingled with the ecstatic crowd, which included former Standard VII pupils, their parents and well-wishers. Venson-Moitoi applauded the school management and staff for also producing good results in 2011 despite the public service strike that had the country at a complete standstill. "I am proud of you to have listened to me during difficult times and scooped position one with 96 percent during the strike. I am pleased that you listened to me and your results have been showing," said Venson-Moitoi. Venson-Moitoi went on to encourage the school head Catherine Mpatane to carry on with good results and build a better education. She encouraged parents to support teachers in producing better results in years to come and be part of their children's education.

"I also want to thank the area MP Moathodi for being part of the children's education when he bought a trophy that is competed for by schools in his constituency. This shows your input in Botswana's education, " she said. Venson-Moitoi went on to reveal that President Ian Khama has also put aside money to be awarded the best Parents Teachers' Association (PTA) in the country. "Again, the best student will be awarded P20,000 and this is an encouragement to the committee to work hard and be part of children's education," said Venson-Moitoi.
