Raphaka's letter divides councillors

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Some councillors walked out in protest after arguing that the special full council meeting convened by the Town Clerk, Kutlwano Matenge in response to 10 councillors' request was unprocedural.

Four protesting councillors, among them the former mayor who lost the High Court case Lekang Mukokomani, were of the view that the Town Clerk has got no authority to preside over council proceedings nor the permanent secretary to authorise the council to elect the mayor and the deputy mayor.

The special council meeting was arranged after 10 councillors wrote a letter, in their individual capacities as members of Selebi-Phikwe Town Council, to Matenge requesting for a special full council meeting in view of the fact that the offices of the mayor and deputy had been declared vacant by the High Court.
