Rape accused policeman out on bail

FRANCISTOWN: A police officer charged with rape was granted bail by a magistrate yesterday after the state filed no opposition to his bid to be set free.

Samson Kgosipula (30) of Tshesebe Police Station in the North East is accused of committing the offence at Block 2 Location in Francistown on Sunday.Inspector Alexander Phale told magistrate Sijabuliso Siziba that investigations into the matter are still ongoing.He said that the accused has not been taken to hospital for tests.Phale applied for a plea to be reserved in the matter. Kgosipula will appear in court again on July 3.Meanwhile, magistrate Mpho Molema sentenced a 31-year old man to a year in jail for house break-in and burglary.

Kgosietsile Maboshe was found guilty of breaking into Mmoloki Thela's house and stealing goods worth P6,195 on August 9, 2012 at Tonota.The convict breathed a sigh of relief after the magistrate reduced his sentences by eight months in both counts. Maboshe was however sternly warned not to commit similar offences for three years.The magistrate ruled that he should be given four strokes on bare buttocks.
