Ramsay threatens civil servants

Civil servants kept off the MISA Botswana awards for the 'Most Open' and 'Most Secretive' public institutions yesterday after a threat from government spokesman Dr Jeff Ramsay.

On Tuesday, Ramsay threatened action against public officers who attended the awards.  As a result, no civil servant was present during the ceremony, which was held at Maharaja Conference Centre in Gaborone.

Public officers were allowed to attend the awards last year.  It is alleged that the government decided to bar officers from attending MISA awards because the government was not happy with the previous MISA board of trustees and director.
