Ramotswa flood victim not paid yet

The Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Edwin Batshu says no compensation has been paid out to the individual who fell off a hoist from the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) helicopter during the Ramotswa 2006 floods rescue operation.

Answering a question in Parliament from South East South Member of Parliament (MP) Odirile Motlhale, who wanted to know the extent of injuries sustained by the individual in question, Batshu said according to the medical record presented to the BDF, he (the victim) complained of back and chest pains, and an open fracture on the left leg.

He added that the man has not been receiving any medical assistance from the BDF. Moreover, no compensation has been paid out to this individual, as the extent of his injuries have not been assessed. He added that the BDF has received his formal application for compensation, which will be assessed and determined in accordance with laws governing compensation.
