Rammidi supports separation of powers in BDP

Deputy secretary general of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), Kentse Rammidi has thrown his weight behind the lobby calling for parliamentary and council candidates to be excluded from contesting party elections.

He asserted that the BDP Central Committee should be distinct from the cabinet or parliamentary caucus. The BDP is scheduled to hold its polls in July and there are suggestions that those who are vying for parliamentary or council seats in the general elections should not contest party positions.

Rammidi has declared that he will not stand for any party position because he is contesting the Kanye North parliamentary seat. He said the debate on whether council and parliamentary candidates should vie for party positions has been going on for some time.
