Raletobana calls for review of constituency league

The unplanned birth of the constituency league by President Ian Khama is now proving to be a pain even in the side of ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Members of Parliament (MPs).

MP for Kweneng East, Mmoloki Raletobana has called on the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Gladys Kokorwe to consider reviewing the constituency league, especially football saying it inconveniences them. He lamented that MPs' office staff are now burdened with drafting fixtures for the league, organising transport for football teams, and to some extent, involving MPs to transport such teams.

Raletobana, who was debating the draft National Development Plan 10 (NDP-10) for the ministry, said that in some instances the teams force them to abandon other social activities such as attending funerals to transport them to the matches.  But the most worrying trend is that there is no accountability as to how the money for the teams is spent. "There are several cases in my constituency of elderly people who have fought over the money," he stated.
