FRANCISTOWN: Godisang Radisigo has been retained as Francistown mayor after emerging victorious at a ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) caucus today.

The ruling party commands majority seats at the Francistown City Council (FCC)council and this means Radisigo will be ushered to his position without any significant challenge. Radisigo shrugged off a challenge from Ntshe ward councilor Eric Mabengano. It was initially speculated that Radisigo will not be challenged at a party caucus but Mabengano later changed his mind.

Radisigo was voted by 11 councillors while Mabengano received four votes. Still at the ruling party caucus Itekeng ward councilor Lesego Kwambala was endorsed as Radisigo’s deputy replacing Gaethuse Ramolotsana. Kwambala received seven votes while Gilbert Boikhutso came second with four votes. Lillian Griesmer managed two votes while Modiri Lucas and Ramolotsana received one vote each. Meanwhile, there were initial reports that Kwambala would not contest the election.
