Queen Mother continues her father's legacy

MOENG: Bafokeng Queen Mother Semane Bonolo Molotlegi of South Africa has pledged to continue her father's legacy at Moeng College in Botswana.

The Queen Mother is a daughter to the late Tshekedi Khama, the Bangwato regent during the colonial times who started the school. She told Mmegi at the school's 60th anniversary celebrations that she aims to revive the institution's founding principles of interaction, self-reliance and self-sufficiency amongst others. "We also dream to see students appreciating the fact that self-development is not a form of punishment but a straight empowerment". She said many things start well but fail along the way. The strongest belief is that everything set on a very strong foundation will survive the tides.

The Queen Mother has a reputation for playing a pivotal role in helping the Bafokeng to become a model community in southern Africa. She has founded and managed several job creation centres. She is described as a hands-on person and a visionary. She believes in making dreams come true. She serves on several boards and is a patron of the World's Children's Prize.
