Quality education is the solution to sustainable development

The just ended Gaborone Summit for Sustainability in Africa is a wakeup call for the civil society organisations (CSO) and the labour movement in particular. At least twice, President Ian Khama challenged the CSO. It is also a direct challenge for African governments to stand up and manage the multi-national corporations (MNCs) that are out for profit making endeavors.

The effects of globalisation are now taking effect on the world economy and worse on the African continent. It is sad to note that Africa's natural resources have been plundered during the colonial period and this continues even today. Africa is still to emerge from the shackles of poverty, horrific civil wars, coup d'etat, gross mismanagement, corruption and all the unimaginable vices.

The multi-national corporations (MNCs) have always been out to systematically exploit Africa's natural resources, leaving some languishing in abject poverty. Africa is still well endowed with natural resources that continue to attract the MNCs. Minerals, wild-animals and other resources are abundant in Africa but their exploitation have always been characterised by controversy.
