Principal rebuts accusations of racism at Kopano

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Some parents with children at Kopano English Medium School have accused the management of racism. The parents feel that their children's classes are being streamlined based on the skin colour.

But Kopano acting principal Anne-Marie Roper has rubbished the accusations saying they are unfounded. Parents who spoke to Mmegi on condition of anonymity last week said that children who are in foundation level are placed in classes as per their skin colour.

The management came under criticism during the school annual general meeting on Thursday for not providing parents with the agenda, financial report and minutes from the last meeting. Parents declined to adopt the minutes from the last meeting because they did not have them. The said they cannot make contributions in the meeting since they did not have the agenda and the financial report. It is understood some staff members were frustrated by the way the management is running the school because there is no pay structure and Batswana are paid less than foreigners.
