Press Council celebrates

This is World Press Freedom week. It is a time that marks an important milestone in the lives of media workers and all those who cherish freedom of expression.

Twenty years ago, the Windhoek Declaration set aside this day to honour and underscore the critical role played by the press in the furtherance of societal development.

Without doubt the framers of the Windhoek Declaration had intended to use the World Press Freedom Day festivities as another means to deepen awareness on lofty ideals such as press freedom rights and to focus attention on the fulcrum role played by the press.
