President has final say on judges - Seretse

Contrary to expectations of Members of Parliament, Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Dikgakgamatso Seretse, says the presidents is not obliged to state why he did appoint Gabriel Rwelengera, Lizo Ngcongco and Gabriel Komboni as judges.

Seretse said this in passing, summing up his response on MPs contributions towards a bill meant to amend a section of the High Court Act to enable the President to appoint a total of 30 High Court judges.

The issue surrounding Khama's reported rejection of names recommended to him for the bench caught the attention of the legislators after MP for Selebi Phikwe West, Kavis Kario, called on the minister to brief Parliament regarding reports that President, Ian Khama, blocked the appointment of Rwelengera as judge, as well as Francistown based Lawyer, Komboni and parliamentary counsel, Ngcongco as acting judges.
