Premier clothing employees unhappy

Premier Clothing is among Botswana's major manufacturers of safety equipment. It supplies millions worth of safety wear to government departments, government owned companies and private companies.

But the company's employees are not happy. They say that the company is ripping them off and treats them like slaves. They are also not happy with the Labour Office, whose officers they say have turned a blind-eye to their plight. Some of the complaints by the staff are that they have a porous human resources department that churns out confidential staff information to anybody.

When employees sign for their monthly salaries, a list of their names, including salary details, is passed from one employee to another and in the process subjecting the low earners to ridicule, it is alleged.
