Postal workers' union petitions minister over working conditions

The Botswana Postal Service Workers Union (BPSWU) marched yesterday to petition the Minister of Communication, Science and Technology, Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi about the poor working conditions of its members.

The petition was delivered to the ministry headquarters in Gaborone. The BPSWU said it is concerned with the physical conditions, which post office employees work under. "The buildings are dilapidated, furniture is in bad condition in some post offices and ventilation is not up  to standard," the petition stated. It added that the union recently held its 41st general congress and resolved to bring to the attention of the minister the bad relationship between the management and the workers, which has deteriorated over the years. The petition said the working conditions at the post office do not only pose a health hazard to workers but to the customers as well and affect service delivery.

BPSWU accused the Botswana Post management of neglecting workers while spending a lot of money on luxurious trips and unnecessary meetings.
