Pope Benedict appoints new Bishop of Gaborone

Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Fr Valentine Tsamma Seane as the new Bishop of Gaborone Catholic Diocese, following the retirement of Bishop Boniface Setlalekgosi.

A statement from the Apostolic Nunciature in Pretoria, South Africa, said the pope made the appointment on Thursday. Until his appointment, Fr Seane was administrator of the Catholic Cathedral in Gaborone.

Fr Seane was born on November 2, 1966, in Lobatse and was educated in South Africa and Rome before ordination on March 19, 1994.  The priest served as youth chaplain from 1994 to 1996 in the Jericho  pastoral district of Pretoria and was an assistant in the Stigmatine House of Formation, Pretoria, while also teaching moral theology at St John Vianney Seminary, from 2001 to 2003.
