Poor JC results worry BOSETU

The Botswana Secondary Teachers' Union (BOSETU) has expressed concern at the low pass rate of the recently released Junior Certificate (JC) results.

"There are a number of factors that could have led to the low pass rate but at the forefront it could have been the teacher-student ratio, which is one teacher to about 50 students in a class," BOSETU publicity secretary, Justin Hunyepa said in Gaborone yesterday.

He indicated that teachers' one-on-one interaction with the students is extremely limited and teachers are dispirited because of poor working conditions. "We, as the union, are very concerned about the results and if there are any reforms that are being done we need to be consulted because we want quality education and the best results for the students," Hunyepa said.
