Police Warn Of SMS Scam

The next time when you receive an SMS or email that you have hit a jackpot overseas or won a luxury car, just forget about it - it is a scam. In Botswana, the police revealed last year that members of the public had been swindled out of millions of Pula by foreign-based tricksters.

One of the messages would read like this: "We wish to congratulate you over your email success in our computer balloting sweepstake. This is a millennium scientific computer game in which email addresses were used.  It is a promotional programme aimed at encouraging Internet users; therefore you did not need to buy a ticket to enter for it.

Email addresses were selected around the world by computer. A raffle draw was conducted by computer with numbers attached to each email address.  Luckily the number attached to your email address was the winning number for second category with a prize of 150,000 Euros (One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Euros) CONGRAGULATIONS"!!!
