Police release boys accused of rape, assault

MMADINARE: Two teenage boys who allegedly raped and assaulted a 16-year-old girl last Friday have been released from police custody.

Selebi-Phikwe Police Station commander, Superintendent Victor Nlebesi, said the victim and her friend were on their way from a night vigil when they met their attackers. He said the two 17-year-old boys are known to the girls. They allegedly pounced on the girls and held them hostage. They led them to the dark parts of the village but one of the girls escaped. Her friend who remained behind was raped by one of the boys in an abandoned house. Before, the rape it is alleged that the boys assaulted her. 

Nlebesi said the two boys were later arrested and then released into their parents’ custody while police investigations were ongoing.
