Police probe student stabbing

GOODHOPE: Police here are investigating a case in which a Form 5 male student at Goodhope Senior Secondary School allegedly stabbed another student with a sharp object on the arm yesterday.

Confirming the incident, Goodhope Police Station Commander, Superintendent Thapelo Ngiye, said the suspect fled the scene before the police arrived.

Ngiye said the police were looking for the suspect, adding that he was a day scholar while the victim was a boarder at the school. "We cannot say anything much at this stage as investigations are still ongoing," he said.  The incident has occurred at a time when public schools throughout the country are operating with skeletal staff because most teachers are on a 10-day public sector strike.  Reached for a comment, one of the teachers said the government did not care about the plight of the students.
