The police have come under the spotlight from angry parents and concerned members of the public after they interrogated and held children in their custody.

Yesterday morning concerned parents called Mmegi and complained that their children, some as young as 10-years-old were arrested by the police during the previous day's riots in Mochudi village.

"As I am speaking with you now, I don't know how my little girl, who is 10 years old is doing. The police took her yesterday as she was walking home," said one of the parents. During a visit to Mochudi one of the parents, Keneilwe Motshegwe told Mmegi how her family was worried senseless the whole night wondering where their little girl was. She also told of how the police were rude to the family. "These children were watching people who are on strike. These children are very young. My granddaughter is 13 and I cannot believe she spent the whole night in police custody and nobody told us anything. The police picked our children here in our ward around 2pm and told us nothing. It was not until this morning around 03:30 am that they came knocking. Her uncle opened (the door) and some officer only said 're tlisitse ngwana, (we brought your child) and they left without giving any explanation," she said.
