Police investigate teen drowning incident

Police in Tshesebe are investigating an unfortunate incident where a teenager died after a swimming escapade with friends went wrong.

Confirming the recent drowning incident, Tshesebe police station commander, Mothusi Padi said they are investigating a case in which an 18-year-old boy of Themashanga village drowned whilst swimming in Ntshe River on Monday afternoon. He said that the teenager completed his form five last year and was awaiting his Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) results. Padi said they received a report from some community members indicating that a group of children was looking for assistance to save one of their friends.

He also said that the same group was pleading for people to help them find their friend who disappeared into the water whilst swimming. Padi indicated that the police later managed to retrieve the lifeless body of the teenage boy. The Tshesebe police chief further stated that there were seven boys aged between seven and 18 years who were swimming in the river prior to the devastating incident. “We always encourage parents to take care of their children during the rainy season in order to avoid such incidents from happening,” he added.
