At least 16 cases of theft and burglary in which dynamite and a hand-grenade were used were reported to the police since January this year. Approximately P300,000 in different currencies was stolen but very few arrests were made.

In one case in March, a Stanbic Bank ATM at Mowana Park Shopping Complex in Phakalane was blown up with dynamite, after which suspects were arrested. The ATM was destroyed but the safe, which contained P253, 010, was not damaged and nothing was stolen from it.
