Police have revealed details relating to an accident in which a cash-in-transit police escort vehicle collided with a Nissan Navara just by the Molapo Crossing traffic lights intersection on Friday.

Images of the police’s Corolla vehicle were widely circulated across social media moments after the accident.

Confirming the accident, deputy divisional traffic officer for South Central, Senior Superintendent Boiki Mojalemotho said the accident occurred when the traffic lights had opened for the Nissan Navara and the driver ended up colliding with the police’s escort car that was coming from the other direction.

He stated that then one of the police officers complained about body injuries and was treated at Sidilega Private Hospital and released. The traffic senior officer revealed that it appears as if the 39-year-old driver of the Nissan Navara miscalculated the distance of the approaching police escort vehicle.

“Luckily he, together with two other officers escaped uninjured. I am pleading with motorists to be cautious and pay attention when driving, to listen for emergency car sirens, and not to enforce their right of way to avoid unnecessary accidents that could lead to death,” Mojalemotho said.
