Police deny shooting Limkokwing students

Chief police spokesperson Christopher Mbulawa has nullified reports that police shot and arrested students of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) as they boycotted classes this week.

Eyewitnesses say three students suffered severe injuries at the hands of police officers. "The police have not arrested any student and they just fired plastic shots in the air in order to disperse the crowd," he said, adding that the students were not injured.

"The police had to intervene because students had gathered around the school premises despite management's decision to close the school on Tuesday," he said. He described the student strike as a very illegal gathering that threatened peace.  LUCT management is also unaware of the incidents. Regional director - corporate, industry and media relations Mercy Thebe said, "I was in a series of meetings and came to school around 12 noon but there were no students, not even a report from colleagues who were in the institution".
