Police deny charges after one-off incident

FRANCISTOWN: Francistown police have defended themselves against charges that they are not doing their job properly.

District CID officer, Superintendent Oabitsa Rankwaile shrugged off the accusations saying that though people were entitled to their opinions, they are unfair to use a one-off incident to castigate the police. She was referring to an incident where a man reportedly stabbed his lover to death at a police station. "It was the first time in my entire life as a police officer, to hear of a person being killed at a police station. It has never happened before and I do not think it will happen again," Rankwaile said.

Superintendent Mokuedi Mphathi said people are quick to point accusing fingers at the police without realising that they are trying their level best to combat crime in the city. "Granted, there may be some lazy officers in my station just as there may be a lazy officer at your workplace. But we always try our best to see to it that we attend to incidents of crime at all times. What happened that day (when the woman was killed in front of police officers) should not be construed to mean we are not doing our job as police officers," he said.
