SELEBI-PHIKWE: Police here have recovered fake notes amounting to P700 in P100 and P200 denominations.

The fake P100 note bears serial number AB1521077, two of the P200 notes share serial number AA5794607 while the rest of the P200 notes bear serial number AA8472611. The counterfeit notes were intercepted last week and have been circulating here and in Serule.

The Commander of Botshabelo Police Station, Superintendent Robson Maleka, told Mmegi that people who were cheated with the fake notes had brought them to the police station.  Maleka warned members of the public to be careful when receiving P100 and P200 notes, especially when in bars and in transactions with street vendors. "The fake notes do not have the water mark and the magnetic chip that feature on genuine articles," he said.
