Police Commissioner Ghannie dies in the US

One of the country's foremost and likeable police officers, Victor Ghannie (44), has died. Ghannie, who was an Assistant Commissioner, died of an unspecified illness in the United States last week where he was studying for a doctorate in criminal justice.

A self-made man, Ghannie joined the police service in the 1980s as a constable. He was a man who believed in education. Over the years, when he was in the police service, he acquired an education diploma at the Molepolole College of Education (MCE) and later proceeded to the University of Botswana (UB) to do a Bachelors degree.

He went further to acquire a Master's degree; at the time of his death, he was studying for a PhD. He was one of the pioneers of the Botswana Police Public Relations Unit.
