Police, cllrs clash over arrested students

A war of words erupted last Friday between opposition members of the Central District Council (CDC) and the police, following the arrest of secondary school students in Serowe.

The students, all from Swaneng Senior Secondary School, were arrested after they rioted, joining students from other schools across the country who have been rioting in protest at not being taught backlog material.

After their arrest, the opposition councillors decided to visit the Serowe Police Station where the children were detained, to establish reasons for their arrest and subsequent detention. But the police would not allow them into the police station.
