Police arrest carjackers

Botswana Police have arrested some hijackers who have been terrorising motorists in Gaborone and surrounding areas.

Police spokesperson Christopher Mbulawa confirmed the arrest of the suspects. "Yes, they were arrested recently and they have since appeared before the court," said Mbulawa.

The suspects are believed to be Batswana aged between 25 and 27 years. Mbulawa said the hijackers had introduced a new and emerging trend of hijacking in Gaborone. It is understood that the suspects would bump an unsuspecting motorist from behind and when he or she comes out, they would pounce on him or her and take off with the car. Mbulawa warned motorists to be vigilant even though some of the perpetrators are now in police custody.
