Police arrest 30 people

Police yesterday arrested 30 people in a random swoop in Gaborone.

The mass arrests took place at the Gaborone City Council (GCC) just after the police, clad in riot gear and carrying guns had dispersed striking workers from Gaborone Secondary School.  Most of the people arrested after police had surrounded the city council premises turned out to be officers employed at the GCC.

"We were just watching the scene of police officers driving away workers with guns and riot squad cars. Little did we know that we would become part of that drama too," said one woman who did not want to be named because "even my boss does not know I have been arrested."
