Police Abetting Illegal Gambling?

FRANCISTOWN: It seems the police are increasingly turning a blind eye to illegal street corner gambling, if three cases they handled last year can be used as a yardstick.

And since January there have been four cases. This is despite evidence unearthed by Monitor that the activity is as rife as Mascom and Orange airtime vouchers in the homes and dark alleys of Francistown.

Police chief, Alakanani Makobo adopts a tired tone when Monitor brings up the subject of unlawful gambling or betting in an interview last Friday.
