Pilikwe youth vow to fight state 'propaganda'

A group of young people from Pilikwe has sworn to fight what it calls government's propaganda in its endeavour to build a radioactive waste storage facility a few kilometers outside the village.

Speaking to Mmegi, the spokesperson of the group, Marx Garekwe, was unimpressed by government's 'unbalanced' use of its media to ward off worries expressed by those opposed to the project.

He said a story written from Vienna, Austria and carried in the state-owned Daily News recently under the headline 'Pilikwe should fear no harm' was unbalanced."Why should they discuss that in Vienna at an international conference while that level of engagement should be for the people on the ground?" asked Garekwe, adding that the consultation process leaves a lot to be desired.He wondered why the consultants chose to call meetings in Pilikwe when they knew the bulk of younger people from the village, who are better informed about such issues, would not attend because of other engagements.
