Pilane Wades Into Lionjanga Graft Case

Senior defence counsel Sidney Pilane submitted that Joseph, who is the acting executive chairman at PPADB, has career interests in the conviction of the accused. "Sadly, the manner of the delivery of his evidence did not dispel this potential possibility," Pilane said.
He submitted that justice must not only be done but be seen to be done. "Any doubts that may linger in the mind of the court, should be given to the benefit of the accused," Pilane submitted.
Pilane urged the court that if it had to choose between the evidence of Lionjanga and Joseph, the court is urged to prefer Lionjanga's.
He asked the court to regard Joseph's evidence with caution as his demeanour during the trial showed obvious bias.
