The Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) has given Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) president, Sidney Pilane a seven-day ultimatum to either step aside as president, or have his party expelled from the coalition.

The other UDC affiliates - the Botswana Congress Party (BCP), Botswana National Front (BNF) and Botswana People’s Party (BPP) - held a meeting on Tuesday with the BMD.

According to sources Pilane, who stormed out of the meeting attended by other UDC leaders, was told he is a liability to the coalition and always causes trouble.  The heated meeting, which started at 3pm, ended around 9pm. Even at break time, tension could be sensed from different party members and the UDC national executive committee members. Members were sitting along party lines.
