PHK pleads for cooperation during power blackouts

The Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources Ponatshego Kedikilwe has pleaded for cooperation during the scheduled power blackouts when the new Morupule B is integrated into the existing power grid.

The minister said this last week when briefing journalists on a tour of the Isang sub-station in Kgatleng that will be used to distribute the power from Morupule to the southern part of the country. He said there would be a lot of inconveniences but people should understand that it would be done for a good cause.

The first 150 megawatts of electricity from Morupule B is expected to be integrated into the national grid by the end of this month. After that, additional three 150mw will be integrated into the grid every three months adding up to 600mw when operating at full capacity by the end of the year. Kedikilwe explained that the planned power outages are essential for compatibility and for protection measures to be put in place.
